Mexican teen killed in shooting outside Target in Los Angeles

A Mexican teen was killed in a shooting outside a Target in Los Angeles. A recent shooting claimed the life of Ángel David Flores Treviño, a 17-year-old boy who was visiting the US to buy school supplies since he had just been accepted into college.

Authorities responded to the shooting around 3:30 pm Saturday at 3500 La Ciénega Boulevard, outside a Target. Ángel David, 17, and his 23-year-old cousin, who was driving the vehicle in which the Mexican family was attacked, were shot in the incident.

The LAPD South Homicide Bureau said the shooter pulled up in a black SUV and opened fire. «They were waiting on a street leaving a Target back in Los Angeles, in Baldwin Hills… when this black SUV got close to them and started shooting at them,» Raúl Flores Rodríguez, a cousin of Ángel David Flores Treviño, told MundoNOW.

Raúl Flores Rodríguez revealed that his 23-year-old cousin was seriously injured and in the hospital at the time of writing this article. Sadly, Ángel David died after being transported to a hospital. «Witnesses say that they saw a woman firing… an African American woman,» said Flores Rodríguez.

«We do not know if it was racial, if it was a gang initiation, the fact is that an African American person shot two of my cousins. One is still very serious in the hospital and Ángel David lost his life,» said Ángel David Flores Treviño’s cousin in a previous message to which MundoNOW had access.

In addition, he said that the young man died from a «lethal shot to the head» and that «he received another bullet in the neck and two in the chest.» The young man’s family in Mexico has begun to raise money for funeral expenses and to take the body to his homeland.

«It’s very sad, he just went to visit his father’s brother, his uncle, visit his family for a while, buy school supplies… He had been accepted into medical school,» Raúl Flores Rodríguez told MundoNOW. «He was very excited because he wanted to be a doctor. He was only 17 years old.»

Also, Ángel David’s cousin clarified rumors that arose on social media after the tragedy. «They left by truck … struggling … there the family supported them to buy the supplies … One goes with the possibilities one has and simply visiting the family … they did not go on vacation or to spend money,» Flores Rodríguez clarified.

He explained that funeral will be very expensive. Four other passengers were in the vehicle and, according to CBS News, they were not injured. A GoFundMe campaign has been created by Arlette Flores, another of Ángel David Flores Treviño’s cousins.

“My brother, cousin, mom, aunt, with 2 children were on their way to the Target when a car approached them and started shooting at them for no reason. Both my brother and cousin were injured during the incident but unfortunately my cousin David did not survive,” said Arlette Flores in the campaign.

The family pleads for help bringing Ángel David Flores Treviño back to Mexico

“I ask for your help so that we can give him a proper funeral and send his body to Mexico and give him a proper burial. Anything helps, including sharing this post,” Arlette Flores wrote in the GoFundMe campaign. MundoNOW confirmed that the campaign is authentic with Raúl Flores Rodríguez.

At the time of writing this article, the family had collected more than $600 dollars from a still distant goal of $15,000 dollars for the funeral expenses and repatriation of Ángel David Flores Treviño’s body. The family held a mass for his eternal rest.

On social media, Raúl Flores Rodríguez shared images of a mass held in honor of his cousin Ángel David Flores Treviño. “A person of color, who belongs to a community that has fought so much for their civil rights and human rights, is cruel to a Mexican family, taking the life of a 17-year-old boy with all the desire to live and to be a doctor to help people,» the post read.

“The lack of gun control in the neighboring country affects our family today, leaving their parents devastated. It is incredible how a community that suffers daily discrimination in the United States has hatred against Mexicans,” Flore Rodríguez wrote.

“Angelito we will remember you with great affection”

The school where the young man studied also felt the sorrow that grips the family from La Laguna, in Mexico. “Today the entire family of the San Gabriel school is in mourning for the loss of an extraordinary student. Little Angel, we will remember you fondly.
