- Israel strikes Sana’a, the capital of Yemen
- Airstrikes hit key infrastructure
- Houthis vow immediate retaliation
According to EFE, the Israeli army confirmed this Sunday a series of airstrikes targeting military and energy infrastructure in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, currently under the control of Houthi rebels.
According to an official statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) bombed a military base that includes the presidential palace, along with two power plants and a fuel depot allegedly linked to insurgent military activities.
The offensive comes amid growing regional tensions involving the Houthis, backed by Iran, and Israel, which accuses them of launching missile and drone attacks against its territory.
The Israeli military communiqué emphasized that the objective was to weaken the operational capacity of what it called the “Houthi terrorist regime,” noting that the targeted facilities were used as logistical and coordination centers.

The Houthis, for their part, reported shortly before the Israeli confirmation that several energy facilities and an oil company had been attacked, describing it as an attempt to further destabilize daily life in Sana’a.
Local media aligned with the insurgents claimed the bombings disrupted electricity supply in several neighborhoods of the capital, causing blackouts that deepen the humanitarian crisis the country has faced during nearly a decade of war.
This is not the first recent strike in Sana’a attributed to Israel. Last week, similar attacks on infrastructure were already reported, marking an escalation of military operations beyond Israel’s immediate borders.
In recent months, Houthi rebels have maintained a pressure strategy by launching attacks against Israeli targets and Western-linked commercial vessels in the Red Sea — prompting increasingly forceful military responses.

Israel argues that the Houthis’ actions are part of a broader campaign orchestrated by Iran through allied groups in different countries, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon or Shiite militias in Iraq and Syria.
The bombing of Sana’a’s energy facilities also seeks, according to regional analysts, to weaken the Houthis’ ability to sustain their military apparatus with revenue from strategic resources such as fuel.
However, humanitarian organizations have repeatedly warned that strikes on civilian infrastructure in Yemen worsen the plight of a population already battered by hunger, poverty, and the collapse of basic services.
Since 2014, when the Houthis took Sana’a and ousted the internationally recognized government, Yemen has been consumed by an internal war that has become a proxy battlefield for Saudi Arabia and Iran.
Military Escalation Beyond Gaza

In this context, Israel’s intervention introduces a new level of risk, as it extends the confrontation of the Gaza conflict directly into the Arabian Peninsula — fueling fears of a regional escalation.
The Saudi-led coalition has already fought intense battles against the Houthis since 2015, while UN-brokered negotiations toward a peaceful resolution have achieved only limited progress.
Sunday’s strikes also align with previous Israeli warnings of readiness to act against any threat emanating from Yemen, after intercepting missiles launched from the country in recent months.
So far, no official figures on casualties have been released, though residents of Sana’a cited by international outlets said explosions were heard across different parts of the city.
Humanitarian Impact on Yemen’s Population
The IDF stressed it will continue monitoring Houthi activity and will act preemptively against any infrastructure used for military purposes that threatens Israel’s security.
The Houthis, meanwhile, vowed to retaliate “at the right time,” in a message circulated through outlets close to the group — signaling a likely cycle of reprisals that could keep tensions high in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
The international community has voiced concern that these strikes could lead to an expanded conflict dragging more Middle Eastern countries into open warfare.
With this latest episode, Yemen once again becomes an epicenter of regional confrontation — where battles transcend national borders and turn into pieces of an increasingly unstable geopolitical chessboard.
