The Venezuelan National Team achieved a surprising victory against Mexico in the 2024 Copa América on Wednesday.

«We are happy because we knew it would be difficult,» said Venezuelan goalkeeper Rafa Romo after the match.

The goalkeeper highlighted his team’s humility in contrast to the underestimation by some Mexican journalists.

«We have the humility to recognize our opponents; we don’t have the arrogance and ignorance of some Mexican journalists,» said Romo.

«We came here to do the work, to fight, to give our best,» Romo added.

The goalkeeper from Universidad Católica de Chile was the standout player of the match.

Rafael Romo saved a penalty taken by Orbelín Pineda near the end of the game.

This action prevented the match from ending in a draw.

Rafael Romo emphasized the collective effort of the team to achieve victory.

«Like one normally does in football, opponents see it, analyze it,» he commented.

«The group of goalkeepers, we work hard; I’m there, I’m the protagonist,» the goalkeeper explained.

Romo’s performance was crucial in securing three points for Venezuela.

Many believe Rafael Romo’s comments were directed at ESPN Deportes commentator Álvaro Morales.

Morales, known for his harsh remarks, had said the following before the match:

«I’m not worried about Venezuela; Venezuela should be worried about Mexico.»

«Mexico will thrash Venezuela, what do you want to bet?» were some of Morales’ comments.
