  • No mass layoffs expected.

The administration of Donald Trump is planning a significant reduction in the workforce at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and other U.S. intelligence agencies.

According to sources close to the matter, the goal is to eliminate thousands of jobs over a period of several years.

This plan is part of a more calculated strategy compared to the drastic measures taken at other government agencies.

While entities like the U.S. Agency for International Development have been nearly dismantled, the CIA cuts are being approached more gradually.

According to the sources, between 1,000 and 1,200 CIA employees are expected to lose their jobs over the coming years.

Although the CIA has not officially confirmed the exact number of affected employees, leaked documents from 2013 showed that the agency had more than 21,000 workers.

Despite the lack of details, the administration has made it clear that the cuts are part of a broader effort to streamline resources and strengthen national security.

When asked about the matter, the CIA spokesperson emphasized that the agency’s director, John Ratcliffe, is taking swift action to ensure the workforce remains focused on national security priorities.

He also explained that the staff reductions are aligned with a comprehensive strategy to revitalize the agency and create new leadership opportunities.

In addition to the CIA, other intelligence agencies that depend on the Department of Defense budget are also planning workforce reductions.

These cuts, aimed at meeting the Pentagon’s goal of reducing the civilian workforce by up to 8%, could be implemented through a combination of early retirements, reduced hiring, and voluntary resignation options.

Despite circulating rumors, mass layoffs are not expected as part of the cuts.

Sources indicate that the changes will primarily occur through non-drastic measures such as eliminating vacancies and accepting employee resignations.

This strategy would allow for a smoother transition without significantly disrupting the daily operations of the CIA and other involved agencies.

The proposed cuts have raised concerns in some sectors, with fears that the reductions could weaken the operational capacity of intelligence agencies amid an increasingly complex global landscape.

However, the Trump administration has insisted that these reductions are essential for improving efficiency and ensuring long-term national security.
