A White House official has revealed that President Donald Trump is considering selling—or even giving away—the red Tesla Model S he purchased in March to show support for Elon Musk.

The car remains parked in the private garage of the executive residence as the president deliberates over its future.

The leak comes just one day after a bitter public feud erupted between Trump and Musk, who were once allies but are now openly at odds.

This was reported by EFE.

Selling the car would symbolize a definitive break between the president and the billionaire entrepreneur.

Trump had previously used the purchase as a political gesture of support for Musk when Tesla was facing attacks on its dealerships, billing issues, and plummeting stock.

Giving up the vehicle would send a clear message to voters that the president has moved on from the strategic alliance and that Musk’s criticism of his fiscal plan will not go unanswered.

For months, Musk held a prominent role as Director of the Office of Government Efficiency, enjoying full presidential backing.

However, the relationship fractured on Thursday after Musk criticized Trump’s budget plan, which is projected to add more than $2 trillion to the national debt.

Trump responded by threatening to suspend federal contracts with Musk’s companies.

In turn, Musk accused Trump of hiding documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case, and claimed his support was key to Trump’s 2024 election victory.

In a call with ABC News, Trump stated that Musk “lost his mind” and that he’s “not interested in speaking with him for a while.”

Sources close to the president describe him as more disappointed than angry.

In a separate CNN interview, Trump added he’s “not even thinking” about the tech mogul.

The White House official who leaked the potential sale emphasized that no final decision has been made—but it confirms an atmosphere of irreparable estrangement.

What’s Next Between Trump and Musk?

If Trump proceeds with the sale, the gesture could pave the way for harsher actions, such as a review of multibillion-dollar federal contracts with Tesla and SpaceX.

Markets have already reacted: Tesla shares fell 14% on Thursday, although they rebounded nearly 6% in early trading on Friday.

Analysts believe the ongoing tension will increase volatility in Tesla’s stock price and could open opportunities for rival firms in federal energy and transportation projects.
