The administration of Donald Trump is in talks with a Phoenix-based company to use shipping containers as temporary housing for migrants awaiting deportation.

According to a report by Semafor Business, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is considering an agreement with Willscot, a company specializing in modular structures.

These containers are typically used as mobile offices and storage spaces on construction sites but could be adapted to house detainees.

Some containers may also serve as medical or administrative areas in migrant detention centers, according to the report.

ICE plans to deploy these structures at facilities along the U.S.-Mexico border and at the Guantánamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba.

Trump intends to send up to 30,000 migrants with criminal records to Guantánamo, where they will be temporarily housed in tent camps.

The first military deportation flight to Guantánamo was scheduled for Tuesday, according to a U.S. official.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that another flight carrying 13 «highly dangerous criminals» arrived at the base on Thursday.

The number of migrants held at Guantánamo is expected to rise in the coming months.

For decades, the base was primarily used to detain foreign nationals linked to the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Discussions between ICE and Willscot come amid a capacity crisis at detention centers after the start of the mass deportations.

A CBS News report revealed that these facilities are operating at 109% capacity, with more than 42,000 detainees.

ICE has 38,521 beds available in its network of private prisons and county jails that could be used for deportations, according to data from the Department of Homeland Security.

Willscot is one of the largest providers of modular offices in the U.S., and its structures can include bathrooms and air conditioning.
