- Available Starting November 2024
Living in New York, one of the most expensive cities in the United States, poses a financial challenge for thousands of residents.
The high cost of living impacts essential areas such as housing, food, and basic services.
To ease this economic strain, the state has introduced a stimulus check of up to $996 through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).
This benefit is designed to help cover heating costs during the winter, a significant expense during the colder months of the year.

Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed the initiative, which aims to protect New Yorkers from extreme cold.
The HEAP program has specific eligibility criteria to ensure the assistance reaches those who need it most.

Eligible groups include heads of households in New York, seniors aged 60 or older, and individuals with disabilities.
Income level is also a key factor in accessing this benefit.
For a four-member household, monthly income cannot exceed $6,390 or $76,681 annually.
Additional factors considered include household size, primary heating source, and the presence of vulnerable individuals.
The regular HEAP benefit for the 2024-2025 period has been available since November 1.
The assistance is paid directly to heating providers, which may include electricity, gas, propane, or other sources.
How to Apply for the Check?

If the household includes a child under 6, a senior over 60, or a person with disabilities, the base check amount increases by $35.
Applications for the HEAP program can be submitted online, at local social services offices, or by phone, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Applicants must provide details about their income, household size, and heating type.
It’s important to act quickly, as program funds are limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
This Stimulus Check Is a Relief for the Coldest Months
Heating costs are one of the biggest challenges during the winter in New York.
The HEAP program aims to ease this burden, particularly for low-income households.
With temperatures often dropping below freezing, this financial aid can make the difference between a safe and dangerous winter.
The check of up to $996 represents not only economic relief but also a commitment to the health and well-being of residents.
