The Mexican military has successfully arrested drug traffickers with the support of U.S. aerial intelligence.
The controversial drones and surveillance flights have played a crucial role in tracking criminals within Mexican territory.
Defense Secretary Ricardo Trevilla confirmed that US drones intelligence has led to recent high-profile arrests.
Operations in Culiacán, such as the capture of ‘Wero Bryan’ and Kevin Alonso, were direct results of these efforts.
US Drones Assist Mexican Intelligence Without Espionage

Trevilla clarified that the US drones are only a complement to existing Mexican intelligence.
He denied allegations of espionage, contrary to reports from CNN and The New York Times.
The unmanned aircraft are primarily used to detect fentanyl laboratories in Mexico.
The New York Times reported that these flights are part of a broader strategy under the Trump administration.
CNN stated that the US drones in use are MQ-9 models, which are unarmed.
Trevilla emphasized that Mexico formally requests and authorizes each foreign surveillance flight over its territory.
He assured that Mexican airspace sovereignty has not been violated by these operations.
The Federal Civil Aviation Agency oversees commercial flights, while the National Defense Ministry regulates military operations.
Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero also defended the collaboration with the U.S..
He recalled that in January, Mexico worked with Arizona’s Attorney General to dismantle a drug trafficking network.

Gertz Manero dismissed allegations of espionage, calling the intelligence gathered «technical and essential information.»
