Mario Guevara Reports Threats and Extortion
Now Held at Folkston Center
His Son Launches GoFundMe Campaign

Journalist Mario Guevara, detained since June 14 while covering a protest in DeKalb County, has reported being the victim of threats and extortion during his time in prison, which led to his urgent transfer to another facility.

In a message posted on his MGNews channel, Guevara confirmed he was relocated to the Folkston County Detention Center in southern Georgia, under the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“I am now back at the Folkston County detention center, and a lot has happened in the past week. I’ve been held in two county jails and a federal prison. I was even the victim of threats and extortion, but thank God my lawyers acted quickly and managed to secure my urgent transfer,” said the Salvadoran reporter.

Mario Guevara Is Facing a Long Legal Battle

Guevara insisted his detention is a consequence of his journalistic work and asked for community support:

“I am aware that I face a long legal battle, all for working diligently to inform my community. I ask that you continue praying for me and for my family. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your support.”

His Son Appeals for Help from the Community

On a GoFundMe page, his son Óscar shared the emotional and financial toll the family is enduring:

“My dad is our main provider, and his prolonged detention is affecting us so much emotionally. He has always defended the Hispanic community, reporting on ICE operations, livestreaming important events, and covering the news.

Today, I’m asking that same community he has always supported to now support him. Your help will allow us to cover expenses and stay afloat as a family during this very difficult time,” his son wrote.
