Leonardo Llanes will spend the rest of his life in prison

Judge Josh Hill of the 232nd District Criminal Court in Harris County was the one who handed down the two harsh sentences to Leonardo Llanes.
Kim Ogg, District Attorney in Harris County, noted that the crime emotionally impacted the large Cuban community residing in southwest Houston.
Detectives from the Homicide Division of the Houston Police Department (HPD) investigated the brutal case of domestic violence.
Neighbors in an apartment complex dialed the emergency number on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, to report a shooting.
The neighbors of the Cuban couple were shocked

HPD patrol officers responded to the Vista en Gessner apartment complex, located at 6425 South Gessner Road, at 4:00 p.m. to investigate the case.
Upon arrival at the scene, HPD officers encountered chaos, with neighbors—mostly Cuban—running out of their homes, visibly distraught and in tears.
One of the officers spotted an apartment with its door ajar and entered to discover Iluminada Marrerro Perdoma in the living room, shot dead.
Elsewhere in the apartment complex, patrol officers found Ernesto Carlos Aguilar Vásquez lying in a pool of blood, also fatally shot.
Iluminada Marrerro Perdoma’s son did not see his mother die

HPD patrol officers followed a trail of blood between the apartments and were directed by several witnesses to Leonardo Llanes’s residence.
It was astonishing to discover that Leonardo Llanes lived in the same apartment complex as his ex-wife, Iluminada Marrerro Perdoma, their son, and her new boyfriend.
In response to the suspected commission of a crime, officers entered the second apartment and found Leonardo Llanes with the weapon, who surrendered to the authorities.
Perhaps by a providential twist of fate, the seven-year-old child, at the time of the crime, did not witness his father’s murder of his mother as he was with a babysitter.
A moment of anger caused the double homicide

During the investigation, detectives from the HPD Homicide Division discovered that Leonardo Llanes was enraged because his son was spending time with his ex-wife’s boyfriend.
On that day, Leonardo Llanes allowed his anger to blind him as he couldn’t reach an agreement with Iluminada Marrerro Perdoma on who should have custody of the child that afternoon.
At one point, security cameras captured Leonardo Llanes leaving his apartment armed and walking towards the woman’s.
Upon seeing Leonardo Llanes approaching, furious and armed, Iluminada Marrerro Perdoma tried to protect herself by locking the door from the inside.
Is the sentence for a Cuban immigrant fair?

However, Ernesto Carlos Aguilar Vásquez was not inside the apartment, and when Leonardo Llanes spotted him, he chased him down mercilessly, ending his life.
Afterwards, the enraged Cuban, Leonardo Llanes, returned to Iluminada Marrerro Perdoma’s apartment and broke a window to gain entry.
Filled with fear, Iluminada Marrerro Perdoma ran to the bathroom in an attempt to save herself, but the man caught up with her and unleashed the weapon in a brutal act of violence.
Now, Leonardo Llanes, the Cuban, awaits transfer to prison where he will serve his two life sentences.
