An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation outside a Chicago school has sparked controversy and concern across social media and local news outlets.

Two women were detained on Wednesday, October 8, in what witnesses described as a sudden and chaotic incident that occurred during the afternoon student pickup line.

The moment was captured on video by a local resident and quickly went viral.

According to Fox 32 Chicago, ICE agents surrounded a vehicle parked outside a school while several people waited in line to pick up students.

In the footage recorded by a witness identified as Eryn, agents are seen forcibly opening the car door and pulling a woman in pink to the ground.

The detained woman, identifying herself as Jocelyn from Cicero, can be heard shouting that the agents did not have a warrant.

As she is restrained, her voice can be heard on camera stating her name, while agents handcuff her and place her — along with another woman — into an unmarked SUV.

During the incident, the woman filming repeatedly asked the officers if they had a court-issued warrant, but they ignored her questions and provided no explanation at the scene, according to the video posted on social media by user @erynfreepress.

Fox 32 later reported that the women were not there to pick up students.

That same evening, Eryn, the witness who shared the video, said she was contacted by friends and relatives of Jocelyn, who confirmed that both women had been released shortly afterward.

So far, ICE has not publicly identified the women or filed any formal immigration-related charges.

However, CBS News Chicago reported that according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the two women were suspected of following an ICE vehicle and interfering with another operation earlier that day.

Allegations of Possible Abuse During the ICE Operation

The video has drawn widespread criticism from residents and civil rights advocates, especially since the operation occurred directly outside a school, alarming parents and local immigrant families.

Although no children appear in the video, the fact that the arrest took place in a school zone reignited concerns over ICE’s enforcement tactics in sensitive areas.

Local organizations have demanded clarity and accountability, questioning whether agents had a valid judicial warrant for the arrests.

The footage has also revived fear among immigrant communities in the Chicago metropolitan area, home to thousands of Latino families who have previously reported similar ICE actions.

No Official ICE Response After the Arrest

As of now, ICE has not provided further details about the operation or the ongoing investigation.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) merely stated that the women were linked to an earlier obstruction incident, but offered no public documentation to verify that claim.

Community leaders continue to call for transparency as the ICE arrests outside Chicago school reignite a broader debate over immigration enforcement near schools, workplaces, and community spaces in Illinois.
