Charlotte, North Carolina shooting

According to initial reports, the incident occurred just before 2 pm (local time) on Monday, April 29.

This was when multiple law enforcement officers were involved in a shootout in a Charlotte neighborhood.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) confirmed that several officers were injured in the confrontation.

This tragic incident was classified as a «severe alert,» indicating the seriousness of the situation.

Four law enforcement officers were killed

It should be noted that five other officers were injured on Monday in the North Carolina shooting, according to The Associated Press.

The officers were first shot as they approached the house and they returned fire in the front yard, said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings.

In addition, several civilians were rushed to the hospital, although the exact number of victims has not been confirmed.

The shooting occurred while the US Marshals Task Force, composed of officers from various agencies, was on the scene.

Immediate response from authorities

A suspect was found dead in the front yard, and two other individuals who were found in the house after a three-hour standoff are being questioned, Jennings said.

The police response was immediate and massive, with at least 100 police vehicles deployed to the area after the shooting broke out.

A SWAT team was also mobilized to the scene to control the situation as gunfire continued, keeping the scene in a state of high tension.

Local authorities have issued an urgent call to residents, urging them to stay away from the shooting area.

They also advised those living in the neighborhood to stay in their homes for safety reasons, according to WCNC .

Nearby roads, including parts of Interstates 77 and 277, were closed to facilitate the movement of ambulances and emergency personnel.
