- Flights to Dubai suspended
- Israel-Iran conflict intensifies
- Airlines prioritize air safety
According to the EFE news agency, tensions in the Middle East caused by the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran continue to have global repercussions.
This Thursday, United Airlines and American Airlines announced the suspension of some of their direct flights from the United States to key destinations in the region.
The reason: increased risks to air safety due to a conflict that has now entered its seventh consecutive day of hostilities.
United reported it has temporarily suspended its daily flights between Newark, New Jersey, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
United and American Explain Their Decision

In a statement, the company explained that the decision was made in response to growing risks in the region, though it expressed an intention to resume service “when it is safe to do so.”
The airline also said it will assist passengers who have already purchased tickets for that route and will closely monitor the developments of the conflict.
Meanwhile, American Airlines confirmed that its daily route from Philadelphia to Doha, Qatar is also suspended for now.
The last flight on that route took off early Thursday morning, bound for the Qatari capital.
Global Reaction to Suspended Flights

According to American’s statement, the suspension will remain in effect at least until June 22.
The company said it will continue to prioritize operational safety and adjust routes and services as events unfold on the ground.
The decision by both U.S. airlines aligns with a global trend in the aviation sector amid the escalating violence in the region.
Air France, KLM, and Air Canada have also announced temporary cancellations of flights to cities like Dubai and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Israel and Iran: A Conflict Without End

These actions reflect growing concern about the stability of airspace in the Middle East.
The conflict between Israel and Iran intensified following an Israeli strike on Iranian military and nuclear facilities early last Friday.
Since then, both nations have exchanged direct attacks for seven straight days.
This exchange of fire has fueled fears of a regional escalation with unpredictable consequences.
Delta and Other Airlines Cancel Routes
This is not the first time airlines have taken action in response to the crisis.
United had already suspended its flights to Tel Aviv shortly after the initial Israeli attack.
Delta Air Lines has also taken precautions, canceling its flights from New York to the Israeli city.
The geopolitical instability has made the Middle East a high-risk zone for commercial operations, particularly air routes that traverse the region’s airspace.
Airspace Deemed Unsafe as Flights Are Suspended
U.S. and European authorities have issued advisories to avoid certain areas of the sky, warning of potential missile or drone attacks.
For airlines, the challenge is to ensure safety without severely disrupting operations or inconveniencing passengers.
Many travelers planning to fly for business, tourism, or family reasons to destinations like Dubai or Doha now face last-minute cancellations and itinerary changes.
Some companies have offered refunds or free date changes, but the impact on tourism and air transport is unavoidable.
