According to NBCDFW, the family of Cecilia Simpson, a 41-year-old woman shot to death in a Dallas parking lot, is still seeking answers.

The incident occurred after an argument that started because another woman failed to say “thank you” when Simpson held the door open for her.

Court documents reveal that Simpson exited a store and exchanged words with Keona Hampton, 22.

Witnesses said that after the initial dispute, Hampton followed Simpson to a nearby PetSmart, where the tragedy unfolded.

“They took away a mother, a daughter, a sister — for no reason,” said her mother, Lessie Wickware.

The family shared the heartbreak they experienced upon learning of the crime.

“My granddaughter’s screams telling me they killed her mother will never leave my mind,” Wickware added.

Her son, Dereon Williams, called the attack “unthinkable and cowardly.”

Neighbors and friends of Simpson organized a vigil at Armstrong Park in her memory.

They released balloons as a tribute and demanded justice for the victim.

“She was a hardworking woman and a devoted mother,” said her sister, Monica Nelson.

The community expressed disbelief that such a trivial argument ended in a deadly shooting.

Suspect arrested and charged with murder

After the attack, Keona Hampton fled the scene but was arrested hours later during a traffic stop.

In her statement to police, she admitted to the shooting but claimed self-defense after the confrontation became physical.

Authorities found no evidence justifying the use of a firearm and confirmed that she will be prosecuted for murder.

Hampton remains in custody at the Dallas County Jail on a $100,000 bond as the investigation continues.
