Costco recalls five products linked to deadly Listeria outbreak

Costco has made the decision to voluntarily remove five products from its shelves due to concerns about possible Listeria contamination.

This recall is in addition to actions taken by other retailers, such as Trader Joe’s, in response to the deadly outbreak that has affected dozens of people.

The recalled Costco products contain cotija or crema cheese, both manufactured by Rizo Lopez Foods, Inc.

The products that have been recalled could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. There are currently five products included in the recall.

Southwest Style Chicken Wrap with Gravy (Item #29433) was sold at Costco between October 27, 2023 and February 6, 2024.

Chicken Taco Kit (Item #11545) was available between January 25, 2024 and February 6, 2024.

Also Rojo’s 6-Layer Dip (Item #1345308) was sold between December 27, 2023 and February 6, 2024.

Costco recalled 2 other products

Products with a “Use By” date of February 22, 2024 or earlier are also included in the list of those that have been recalled.

Don Pancho Cilantro Lime Crema 2-pack (Item #1341779) was available between January 19, 2024 and February 6, 2024.

And Don Pancho Crema Trio Pack (Item #1796365) WAS sold between January 17, 2024 and February 6, 2024.

The company urges customers who have purchased any of these products not to consume them and to return them to their local Costco store immediately.

The FDA is investigating

According to Today, consumers who have purchased any of these items and return them will receive a full refund.

The withdrawal of these products from the market is the result of an investigation by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

It’s important to note that Listeria can survive in the refrigerator and transfer to other foods and surfaces.

Thorough cleaning is recommended after discarding potentially contaminated products.

Symptoms caused by Listeria

In addition, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has also reported on Listeria outbreak linked to Rizo Lopez Foods.

The symptoms of this bacterial infection, which can be fatal, can appear from the day of ingestion up to ten weeks later.

These can range from mild, such as fever and nausea, to more serious, such as confusion and a stiff neck.

The bacteria is more likely to affect high risk groups, such as pregnant people, babies, adults over 65 years of age and people with weakened immune systems.

What to do if you have the any of the listed products

It is recommended to call your doctor if you experience any of the symptoms associated with Listeria infection, according to the CDC.
