China’s new tariffs on US agricultural products officially took effect this Monday.

The Chinese government justified the measure as a direct response to the tariffs previously imposed by Washington.

Mao Ning, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the current trade tensions stem from market dynamics rather than deliberate Chinese policy.

She emphasized that China does not seek to create a trade deficit with the U.S., but rather that both nations have benefited from bilateral trade.

Impact of Tariffs and China’s Warning

Mao Ning pointed out that China’s imports have provided US consumers with high-quality goods at lower costs.

She warned that a trade war would harm both sides and urged Washington to reconsider its stance.

15% tariff on poultry, wheat, corn, and cotton.

10% tariff on soybeans, pork, fruits, and dairy products.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has recently doubled additional tariffs on China, raising them to 20%.
