According to EFE news agency, federal judge Arun Subramanian on Wednesday denied the bail request for rapper Sean Combs, known worldwide as Diddy.

The judge’s decision came just hours after the artist’s defense team presented arguments seeking his release.

The jury’s verdict had convicted Combs on two counts of transporting women for the purpose of prostitution.

However, the same ruling acquitted him of more serious charges that could have carried a life sentence.

Defense Insists on Bail

Despite that partial acquittal, the judge determined there was no reason to alter pretrial detention.

The defense had offered $1 million in bail and the surrender of Diddy’s passport.

With that, they tried to convince the court there was no flight risk.

But Judge Subramanian firmly rejected the proposal.

History of Violence Complicates the Case

During the hearing, he recalled that pretrial release had already been denied earlier in the case.

In his view, nothing had changed to reverse that decision.

He highlighted the history of violence that emerged during the proceedings.

Subramanian noted that even the rapper’s own defense had acknowledged incidents of domestic violence.

Trial Reveals Pattern of Violence by Sean Combs

Incidents involving Cassie Ventura and another woman identified as Jane were mentioned.

For the judge, these past events showed that Combs posed a threat to the community.

“As the government pointed out, we saw during the trial that Combs continued a pattern of violence over the years, as recently as 2024,” argued Subramanian.

Thus, the concern was not limited to past offenses but extended to an ongoing and persistent pattern of behavior.

Prosecution Praises Decision to Keep Rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Detained

The prosecution had strongly pushed to keep the rapper in custody.

After the judge’s ruling, they celebrated the decision as a powerful statement.

They asserted it demonstrated zero tolerance for crimes related to sexual exploitation.

Although the charges he was convicted of were less severe than the original allegations, the prosecution maintained that pretrial detention was essential.

Diddy’s Defense Prepares New Appeal

Meanwhile, Combs’ defense team expressed outrage over the court’s decision.

Attorney Marc Agnifilo accused the court of giving the case exceptional and discriminatory treatment.

He argued there were precedents of defendants charged with transporting women for prostitution who had been granted bail.

“This is a unique case because of my client’s notoriety,” lamented Agnifilo.

Rapper Sean Combs Faces Sentencing in October

He claimed the court’s response was disproportionate and suggested bias linked to Diddy’s fame and the intense media scrutiny of the trial.

“I don’t know of other cases where a client of prostitution has been convicted for transportation for the purpose of prostitution,” the lawyer stated.

The judge preliminarily set the sentencing hearing for October 3 at 10:00 a.m. local time.

However, he indicated he was open to reconsidering the date if the defense requested it.

Diddy’s Trial Exposes Abuse Allegations

He also scheduled a remote hearing for next Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. New York time.

At that session, the final date for sentencing will be discussed.

The defense plans to use this opportunity to try to reduce the time Diddy spends in pretrial detention.

The case has attracted extraordinary media attention due to the high profile of the defendant.

Diddy’s Image Damaged by Conviction

Sean Combs, 55, is considered an icon in music and business.

The trial stretched over eight weeks, featuring testimony from more than thirty witnesses.

The proceedings brought to light violent incidents, abuse allegations, and a power dynamic that, according to the prosecution, facilitated the transportation of women for sexual services.

Although the verdict spared him a life sentence by acquitting him of the most serious charges, the conviction remains a significant blow to his public image.
