A school-aged, unvaccinated child has died in Texas due to measles, as the outbreak continues to spread, now affecting 124 people in the South Plains and Panhandle communities. The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) confirmed the death on Wednesday.
Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. stated that this is the most severe measles outbreak in Texas in the last 30 years, with at least two fatalities recorded.
«We are working to contain the spread and assess the full extent of the outbreak. So far, all indications point to a Mennonite community with low vaccination rates as the primary source.»
Kennedy Jr. made these remarks during a cabinet meeting with Donald Trump.

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection, transmitted through direct contact or airborne particles.
Symptoms start with high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes, followed by the distinctive rash, which first appears on the face before spreading to the rest of the body.
Health officials are urging individuals who experience symptoms or have had contact with confirmed cases to self-isolate and immediately consult a doctor.
Authorities have also reiterated the importance of vaccination in preventing severe cases and stopping the measles outbreak from spreading further.
