Canadian authorities were forced on Thursday to temporarily suspend air traffic across much of the country due to a series of bomb threats affecting airports in Ottawa, Montreal, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver.

Canada’s air traffic agency, Nav Canada, stated in a press release that the bomb threats led to evacuations at several facilities and the suspension of air traffic at the affected airports.

“Earlier this morning, Nav Canada was informed of bomb threats impacting facilities in Ottawa, Montreal, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver. Employees at the affected locations are safe, and a temporary ground stop has been implemented at the corresponding airports,” the agency said.

The announcement triggered nationwide alerts and moments of uncertainty among travelers who were either in transit or about to board their flights.

Airports in Canada Face Bomb Threats

Shortly after issuing the warning, Nav Canada reported that service was “gradually resuming,” but also cautioned passengers to expect delays on their flights.

The advisory extended to anyone with scheduled flights throughout the morning and early afternoon, leading to long lines at airline counters and confusion in departure lounges.

Although security personnel and emergency teams acted swiftly, precautionary measures included partial evacuations, additional screenings, and runway closures to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.

Toronto Pearson, Canada’s largest airport and one of North America’s busiest hubs, was not affected by the threats, which are currently under investigation by security forces.

Police and intelligence services are working to identify the source of the bomb threats, assess their credibility, and prevent further disruptions to Canada’s air transportation system.

Meanwhile, airlines and airport authorities urged passengers to remain calm and advised them to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport.
