The US government announced on Wednesday, June 18, an urgent plan to evacuate its citizens from Israel through special flights and ships, in response to the escalating armed conflict between Israel and Iran.

“Urgent notice! US citizens who wish to leave Israel: the US Embassy is coordinating evacuation flights and cruise departures,” announced US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee.

The program is aimed at those who wish to leave the country immediately. Citizens are advised to register on the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) website to facilitate communication with the State Department.

This was reported by EFE.

Since Monday, the Trump administration raised the travel advisory to the highest level for Israel and the Palestinian territories, citing risks due to “armed conflict, terrorism, and civil unrest.”

Additionally, the US Embassy in Jerusalem was ordered to close temporarily until Friday.

In parallel, Washington urged American citizens in Iran to leave the country immediately or prepare to shelter in place for extended periods.

Reminding the public that Iran and the US have no diplomatic relations.

In Context

Israel and Iran have engaged in intense exchanges of aerial attacks since last week, resulting in a growing number of casualties and damage to strategic facilities.

The situation has sparked global concern over a potential regional escalation.

President Donald Trump left open the possibility of involving the US in the Iral-Israel conflict:

“I might do it, or I might not. No one knows what I’m going to do,” the president said after returning early from the G7 summit in Canada to assess the crisis with his national security team.

Why It Matters

The mass evacuation of US citizens from Israel marks a critical turning point in the Middle East crisis.

It is a preventive measure that highlights the increasing risk of direct US military intervention.

Which would significantly raise global geopolitical tensions.
