According to EFE, President Donald Trump surprised the world on Monday by announcing that Israel and Iran have agreed to a «total ceasefire» lasting 12 hours.

He made the statement from the White House, sparking global reactions due to the gravity of the conflict between the two countries.

“Israel and Iran have agreed to a total ceasefire for 12 hours,” Trump told reporters.

He added that if hostilities remain halted during that period, “the war will be over.”

International Reactions to Trump’s Announcement

The announcement comes after weeks of military tension and cross-border threats in the Middle East.

Trump did not provide any details on how the agreement was reached or what role, if any, the United States played in mediating it.

So far, neither the Israeli nor the Iranian governments have officially commented on the truth or scope of the deal.

The international community reacted cautiously to the U.S. president’s announcement.

Officials from the United Nations and European diplomats said they are waiting for formal confirmations from both sides.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the possibility of a ceasefire but called for “on-the-ground verification.”

In Israel, local media reported that the Security Cabinet has yet to release any statement.

In Iran, the Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson did not directly address the matter but reiterated Tehran’s desire to avoid further military escalation.

Political Analysis and U.S. Domestic Reactions

From Washington, Trump appeared optimistic and declared it “a great day for world peace.”

In his usual style, he credited the agreement to his administration’s “negotiating strength.”

“We achieved it without firing a shot, with respect and firmness,” he said.

However, international relations analysts warn that the announcement may have domestic political motivations.

Global Anticipation Over the Temporary Halt

Trump is seeking re-election in November, and news like this could bolster his image as a leader capable of preventing war.

In recent weeks, he had toughened his rhetoric toward Iran and deployed additional military forces to the Persian Gulf.

He had also reaffirmed the U.S.’s unconditional support for Israel amid rising tensions from clashes with pro-Iranian militias in Syria and Lebanon.

The most recent confrontations had resulted in dozens of deaths and the looming threat of regional war.

Will the Israel-Iran Truce Hold?

Therefore, the announcement of this ceasefire, even if limited to 12 hours, marks a dramatic shift in the narrative.

Pentagon sources neither confirmed nor denied the existence of an operational agreement.

They merely stated that they remain “alert and vigilant” for any developments in the region.

Meanwhile, in both Tel Aviv and Tehran, civilians face the news with uncertainty and skepticism.
