Presidential spokesperson Karoline Leavitt explained that the meeting, scheduled for this Friday in Anchorage, Alaska, will be a “listening exercise” for Trump.

“This is a listening exercise for the president (Trump). Only one of the parties involved (Putin) will be present, so it will serve to gain a better understanding of how we can bring this war to an end,” Leavitt said at a press conference.

The official thus lowered expectations that the event would lead to an agreement to end the conflict, although she expressed hope that, in the future, a trilateral summit with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could take place.
