According to EFE, U.S. President Donald Trump made a surprising statement on Monday during his Memorial Day speech at Arlington National Cemetery.

In a highly symbolic setting, Trump said he felt “blessed” to serve during what he called “one of the most important periods in modern U.S. history.”

He highlighted that his current term aligns with three major events: the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, and the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence in 2026.

“In a way, I’m glad I missed that second term back then,” Trump said, referring to the 2021–2025 presidency of Joe Biden.

With a triumphant tone and a smile, Trump added, “Because I wouldn’t be your president during this very important time,” drawing cheers and applause from the crowd.

The comment stands in contrast to his past claims of electoral fraud in the 2020 election, which he maintains cost him the presidency.

“Can you imagine if I had missed these four years? And now look what I’ve got. I’ve got it all. It’s incredible how things work out. God made this happen,” he said, framing his return as divinely orchestrated.

Trump even joked about the historic events his term will encompass.

International Events and Presidential Legacy

“I got the World Cup and the Olympics. The 250th wasn’t mine, but I’d like to think it was,” he said with a laugh.

The World Cup, co-hosted by the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, was awarded in June 2018.

While the International Olympic Committee named Los Angeles as the 2028 host city in September 2017.

Both were achievements Trump claimed during his first presidency as signs of American global prestige.

“I thought: ‘what a shame not to be president then.’ And look what happened—I was elected, and we’re going to have a great time,” Trump said, amplifying patriotic fervor.

He emphasized that beyond the sports events, the 250th anniversary would be the most meaningful celebration.

“The most important of all is the 250th anniversary—that surpasses everything, including the World Cup and the Olympics,” he stated.

Trump also used the opportunity to publicly support Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

Defending Hegseth, Looking Ahead

The defense secretary has been under scrutiny for allegedly leaking sensitive military information in a public chat group.

“Thanks also to a man who’s dedicated his life to the military and our veterans—Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth,” Trump said.

He closed his praise with: “He’s a tough guy. That’s what we want.”

Although it was a solemn ceremony, the speech bore strong campaign overtones.

Trump Projects a Historic Presidency Through Major Events

Trump has hinted at interest in seeking a third term, though this would require a constitutional amendment.

Still, his remarks reflected growing confidence in his political futur.

As well as a strategic effort to link his leadership with historic national moments.

Through patriotic dates, global sports spectacles, and nationalist rhetoric, Trump aims to solidify a lasting legacy.
