Stanley, the renowned drinkware company, announced a recall of 2.6 million travel mugs in the United States on Thursday.
The decision comes after multiple consumer complaints regarding burns and injuries caused by defective lids.
The affected models include the Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs in all colors and sizes.
The recall was officially announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Issues with Stanley Polypropylene Lids Spark Recall: Incidents and Recommendations
The problem lies in the polypropylene lids, which, in some cases, have loosened during use.
Stanley has received 91 reports of similar incidents globally.
Some of them required medical attention for the users.
The CPSC has advised consumers to stop using the affected mugs immediately and to contact Stanley for a free replacement lid.
Consumers can request a replacement lid by providing the product’s serial number.
The recalled mugs, manufactured in China, have been on the market since 2016.
They were sold primarily through retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Stanley, a company with over a century of history, rose to greater fame during the pandemic thanks to its durable products.
The Stanley Adventure Quencher became a cultural phenomenon, largely due to promotion by social media influencers.
Viral videos showcased the product’s durability, including its resistance to fires and explosions, boosting its reputation.

The recall, however, specifically targets smaller travel mugs with lids that may shrink when exposed to heat.
This defect could cause the lids to detach while users are drinking, posing a safety risk.
