Former Fox News host and Trump ally Jeanine Pirro has been confirmed by the Senate as the new US Attorney for the District of Columbia.

Pirro also previously served as a judge in New York.

The decision passed with 50 votes in favor and 45 against.

This was confirmed by ABC News.

Senate Confirms Jeanine Pirro as U.S. Attorney

Jeanine Pirro, a conservative media figure and former judge in New York, has been confirmed by the Senate as Washington, DC’s US Attorney, one of the nation’s most important judicial posts.

The final vote was 50-45.

Pirro had already been serving as acting US Attorney since May, following her appointment by President Donald Trump.

Now, with her official confirmation, she becomes the top official in charge of prosecuting both federal offenses and local crimes in the nation’s capital, a unique role within the US judicial system.

During the swearing-in ceremony in the Oval Office, Pirro vowed to “tackle the city’s violence,” highlighting her experience as a former judge and prosecutor in New York State.

A Replacement After a Failed Nomination

Jeanine Pirro’s confirmation came after the failed nomination of Ed Martin, Trump’s first candidate for the position.

Martin lost support within the Republican Party due to his public defense of participants in the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack and his inflammatory comments about the events.

Pirro, in contrast, managed to secure enough backing from Republican senators despite criticism from Democrats over her close ties to President Trump.

The new prosecutor has been a consistent supporter of Trump since his first presidential campaign in 2016.

Power and Oversight from the Nation’s Capital

As US Attorney for the District of Columbia, Pirro will have jurisdiction over some of the country’s most sensitive cases.

From corruption investigations to violent crimes in the city, the role is strategically important for the Trump administration, especially amid a polarized political climate and with the 2026 presidential election on the horizon.

Pirro’s confirmation further consolidates the president’s influence over the nation’s judicial and legal apparatus—something critics view with concern as power becomes more centralized in Washington.
