- Trump to deploy more immigration agents
- Sanctuary policies under fire
- ICE arrests two Dominican nationals
According to EFE, New York City is bracing for a significant increase in federal immigration agents.
The move follows a violent attack on an off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer.
He was ambushed Saturday night in a Manhattan park.
Federal authorities have arrested two Dominican nationals as the primary suspects.

The suspects have been identified as Miguel Francisco Mora Núñez and Cristian Aybar Berroa.
According to federal sources, both entered the U.S. illegally—Mora in 2023 and Aybar in 2022.
And both had prior criminal records as well as active deportation orders.
Authorities had been unable to locate them until now.
Criticism of Sanctuary City Policies

Los
Both men now face charges of theft, assault, and contempt of court in New York State.
The attack on the CBP officer triggered an immediate federal response.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem blamed sanctuary city policies for the suspects’ previous release.
“Because of the mayor’s policies and sanctuary city laws, this man was allowed back on the streets to harm the community,” Noem stated.

During a press conference at the One World Trade Center, Noem called on local governments to reverse these policies.
“There’s no reason someone this dangerous should be walking free in New York City,” she added.
Standing beside her, Border Czar Tom Homan announced aggressive measures to address the issue.
Homan pledged to “flood” New York with immigration agents to make up for the city’s lack of cooperation.
Pressure Mounts on NYC Over Immigration
Homan asserted that sanctuary cities invite more federal intervention by refusing to work with ICE.
“When local police release criminal suspects, we have to step in,” he said.
The Trump administration has seized on the incident to bolster its campaign against sanctuary cities.
Since taking office, President Trump has pursued legal and financial actions against jurisdictions that shield undocumented immigrants from federal authorities.
Immigration Raids Stir Community Fear
Past measures have included funding cuts and lawsuits against local governments like Los Angeles.
New York is once again at the center of the immigration debate.
The city continues to maintain a non-cooperation stance with federal immigration authorities.
This policy means local police do not automatically hand over individuals with deportation orders.
New York Under Federal Immigration Pressure
However, the officer’s assault has reignited calls to reverse these practices.
Conservative voices have amplified pressure on city officials to end sanctuary protections.
New York Mayor Eric Adams has yet to comment on the announcements by Noem and Homan.
Meanwhile, immigrant rights advocates warn that a surge in ICE presence could spread fear throughout communities.
Ongoing Debate Over Immigration Agents in New York
Fear has already reached many undocumented residents without criminal histories, who now worry about deportation.
Federal officials insist public safety is at risk.
The official narrative argues that sanctuary policies obstruct the enforcement of immigration law.
Without local cooperation, they contend, dangerous individuals are allowed to remain free.
