Elon Musk and Peter Navarro, Trade and Manufacturing Advisor to President Donald Trump, are engaged in an open feud after Navarro criticized Tesla’s electric vehicle production.

In a post on X, Musk didn’t hold back, calling Navarro a “complete fool” and an “idiot” in response to comments about Tesla’s manufacturing.

In a separate post, Musk even changed his display name on the platform to “Peter Retarrado” (Retarded Peter), further escalating the clash.

The dispute began after Navarro told NBC News that, although Musk is widely seen as a carmaker in the U.S. and the White House, “he’s not a car manufacturer. He’s a car assembler.”

Peter Navarro went on to say that Tesla’s vehicle components come from various countries including China, Taiwan, and Japan, stressing that the U.S. government prefers cars to be made entirely within the country, citing economic and national security concerns.

Musk responded on X, stating that Navarro’s remarks were “demonstrably false,” and emphasized that “Tesla has the most U.S.-made cars.”

He also highlighted that “Tesla is the most vertically integrated carmaker in the U.S., with the highest percentage of American-made content.”

“Navarro should ask the fake expert he invented, Ron Vara,” Musk concluded, referencing a fictional character Navarro has used in the past to defend his views.

This isn’t the first clash between the two. Peter Navarro had previously criticized Musk’s stance on tariffs with the European Union. After Musk voiced support for removing them, Navarro accused him of prioritizing his own business interests “like any businessman would.”

“What people need to understand about Elon is that he sells vehicles. That’s what he does,” Navarro said during an interview with Fox News on Monday.

The Musk-Navarro feud underscores ongoing tensions between private industry and U.S. government policies on domestic manufacturing.

While Musk insists that Tesla integrates most of its vehicle production on American soil, Navarro continues to argue for stronger domestic control to support economic growth and national security.

The clash has drawn significant attention not only from their respective followers but also from the general public, as it reveals the complexities of the relationship between tech giants and government officials.
