Investigations Into Mexico City Gas Truck Explosion

Last Wednesday, a tanker truck with a 49,500-liter capacity overturned and exploded in the eastern area of Mexico City.
The explosion triggered a massive fire, considered one of the most serious accidents in recent years.
The blast damaged homes, vehicles, and dozens of people who were nearby.
The explosion’s shockwave was heard for several kilometers, spreading panic throughout the community.
Causes of the Iztapalapa Explosion Under Investigation
Authorities continue to investigate the exact causes of the accident.
Initial reports from the Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office point to excessive speed as one of the main hypotheses.
They are also analyzing whether the driver’s lack of skill prevented him from controlling the tanker.
The company that owns the vehicle, identified as Silza, is now under legal and administrative review.
Driver Hospitalized Faces Criminal Charges
The truck driver remains hospitalized with severe burns covering most of his body.
Despite his condition, he faces possible criminal charges for homicide, injuries, and damages.
Authorities have stated that once his condition stabilizes, he will be required to answer for the Iztapalapa explosion before the law.
If confirmed, the charges could set a precedent for the responsibility of fuel transport companies in similar disasters.
