  • A 20-year-old girl was killed when Martinez’s van in the wrong direction collided with her GMC car head-on on a highway in southwest Houston, Texas.
  • Martinez is being held in Fort Bend County cells and could face a 20-year jail sentence.

Johnny Bladimir Martínez is accused

of a intoxication homicide by causing, allegedly drunk, an accident in which a girl died.

Martínez, 35, was detained by officers of the Sugar Land Police Department (SLPD) a suburb in the southwest of the greater Houston area.

According to the accident report, consulted by MundoHispánico, the victim is the young Diana Jacquelyne Ortiz, 20, who lives in the town of Rosenberg, Texas, also southwest of Houston.

According to authorities at 2:30 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2020, a gray Toyota Tundra truck entered the center lanes of I-59 southbound but in the opposite direction and at full speed.

A GMC truck that Ortiz was driving was traveling in the right direction along that same road and who, according to his family, was on his way home after having completed his work day.

The report details that the girl did not have time to dodge the blow at the speed of the Tundra truck that went in front of her.

After the impact, the front parts of both cars were completely damaged on the road, blocking the road from the other vehicles.

Some of the frightened drivers on the highway called the SLPD’s emergency number to report what had just happened on I-59 between Highway 6th and Sweetwater Lane.

At the scene of the accident, agents of the SLPD and other corporations such as the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office (FBCSO) and the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS, for its acronym in English).

The agents who came to cover the accident could no longer do anything for Ortiz and the girl was declared dead at the scene due to the various injuries she suffered in the crash.

Johnny Bladimir Martínez was taken to an area hospital to be treated for his minor injuries and to be tested for alcohol in his blood.

After the medical results, it was determined that Martínez was driving in a presumed state of drunkenness when he was going in the opposite direction on highway I-59 and collided with the girl’s car.

Martinez is already being held in the Fort Bend County Jail on a charge of intoxication homicide before Judge Frank J. Fraley of the 240th District Criminal Court.

Johnny Bladimir Martínez: No Bail

Judge Fraley decided, until the time of writing this story, that Johnny Bladimir Martínez will not receive the benefit of being released on bail so the man continues to be detained pending his first hearing.

The force of the blow with which Martinez’s Toyota Tundra truck struck Ortiz’s GMC truck was such that agents from different corporations closed the road at the impact site for more than four hours to carry out forensic expert reports.

Now, according to a source within the investigation who spoke with MundoHispánicoIn addition to the charges against Martinez, the Fort Bend County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating where he drank such a level of alcohol that he was allowed to drive while drunk.

In Texas, businesses, such as bars or restaurants, that allow a person to consume high levels of alcohol and cause an accident can face civil legal penalties as well as criminal charges for their alleged irresponsibility.

Diana Jacquelyne Ortiz was the daughter of an immigrant family and just a few months ago she had graduated from Foster High School in Rosenberg, a cattle town, like many Hispanic families who choose that place to raise their children away from the urban bustle.

The crime of homicide by intoxication such as that faced by Johnny Bladimir Martínez for the death of Diana Jacquelyne Ortiz is considered serious by the authorities.

According to Texas State Penal Code a person found guilty of that crime after facing trial can face a sentence of 2 to 20 years in prison and the decision of the sentence rests with the judge who takes the case.

As of this writing, Johnny Bladimir Martínez has not appointed a lawyer to represent him, nor has he wanted to make any statement to the authorities until he has a legal representative.
