The Israeli military ordered new evacuations in southern Gaza this Sunday, following a devastating airstrike on a school-turned-shelter in northern Gaza that resulted in the deaths of at least 80 Palestinians, according to local health authorities.
The attack has exacerbated the already dire humanitarian crisis in the region, worsening the critical displacement of civilians.
The Israeli bombing targeted a school in Gaza City, which was being used as a refuge by thousands of displaced people.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health reported that at least 80 people were killed, and around 50 were injured in the attack.

In response, the Israeli military claimed that the target of the attack was a militant command post and stated that 19 Hamas and Islamic Jihad fighters were killed.
The military also released photos and names of the alleged deceased militants, but these claims were rejected by Hamas and other Palestinian groups, who asserted that some of those killed had been previously targeted, and others were civilians.
Saturday’s attack occurred amid ongoing evacuation orders issued by Israel.
The new directives affect areas in Khan Younis, one of Gaza’s largest cities, and previously designated humanitarian zones by Israel.
Critical Situation in Israel
The situation is dire, with hundreds of thousands of people displaced and seeking refuge in precarious conditions in tent camps or other facilities.
The evacuation orders have led to a massive migration within the territory, with families like Amal Abu Yahia’s and Ramadan Issa’s facing multiple displacements in search of safety.
Amal Abu Yahia, a mother of three and a widow since a previous airstrike, described her desperate situation, saying, «We don’t know where to go. This is my fourth displacement.»
Ramadan Issa, who fled with 17 relatives, expressed the exhaustion and frustration of the displaced: «Every time we settle in a place, the occupation comes and bombs the area. This situation is unbearable.»
The Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza Worsens
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has significantly worsened since the conflict began on October 7, when Hamas militants launched a massive attack that left 1,200 dead and approximately 250 kidnapped.
Since then, Israeli military operations have continued.
Leading to an increase in casualties and destruction in Gaza.
The conflict has drawn international attention, with European leaders condemning the attack and the United States expressing concern over civilian casualties.
Kamala Harris Speaks Out
Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized the need for a hostage agreement and an immediate ceasefire, stating, «Once again, too many civilians have died.
We need a hostage agreement and we need a ceasefire, and it has to happen now.»
The UN Office for Human Rights has noted that Israel has carried out «systematic attacks» on schools used as shelters since the war began, with at least 21 attacks recorded since July 4.
The lack of independent access to verify facts in Gaza has complicated obtaining accurate information about events, contributing to growing international concern over the humanitarian situation and violence in the region.
