Members of the military and veterans can also use the free MilTax service to file their federal and state tax returns.

Some taxpayers affected by natural disasters or serving in combat zones may have extended deadlines to file their returns.
The IRS provides extensions for people in areas recognized by FEMA as disaster zones.
Those returning from combat zones also have extended deadlines, which vary by region.
Specific IRS Extensions
- Taxpayers in Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and West Virginia: deadline until November 1, 2024.
- Taxpayers in Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, New York, Texas, and other regions: deadline until February 3, 2025.
- Taxpayers affected by Hurricane Helene: deadline until May 1, 2025.
- Taxpayers affected by the attacks in Israel: deadline until September 30, 2025.
IRS Online Tools
Taxpayers can access their IRS Online Individual Account to check the status of payments, tax records, and more.
Access to these tools requires identity verification through the ID.me service, which also applies to services like obtaining transcripts and managing payments.
