- NYIC Demands Immediate Release
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency detained a mother and her three children on a farm in Sackets Harbor, New York, without a judicial warrant.
The arrest took place in the city where border czar Thomas Homan resides, according to the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC).
The family was transported from New York to the Karnes County Detention Center in Texas—a place where they know no one.
On March 27, ICE agents carried out the operation as part of a national campaign targeting undocumented immigrants.
Criticism of ICE Over Family’s Transfer and Impact on Local School Community

Jennifer L. Gaffney, superintendent of the Sackets Harbor Central School District, criticized the detention and out-of-state transfer of the family.
“We are heartbroken that ICE took three students and their mother from our community,” Gaffney stated.
Murad Awawdeh, president of NYIC, called it “horrific” that ICE had “kidnapped” the mother and her children.
Awawdeh emphasized that the mother and her family had been complying with the immigration process and attending court hearings when they were detained by ICE.

NYIC demanded that due process be respected and called for the “immediate release” of the family.
“ICE is now acting completely outside the law,” Awawdeh added, issuing a call to action to government authorities.
