Photos of Robert Crimo at Donald Trump’s rally date back to 2020. In them the young man appears dressed as Where’s Waldo, wearing a red and white striped hat and round black glasses. Another photograph that was leaked on social media shows the suspect draped in a Trump flag while laughing and climbing onto a chair.

One of the rallies Crimo was photographed at took place in Northbrook, Illinois, however, the former president did not attend the event. Crimo’s IMDb page describes him as «the middle child of three children who grew up in an Italian-American family in Highland Park, Illinois,» according to The Daily Mail.

Highland Park Police Chief Lou Jogmen said a police officer stopped Robert E. Crimo III about five miles north of the scene of the shooting, several hours after police released his photo and a picture of his silver Honda Fit, warning the public that he was probably armed and dangerous. Authorities initially said he was 22, but an FBI bulletin and Crimo’s social media say he is 21.

Police declined to immediately identify Crimo as a suspect, instead calling him a person of interest. Sharing his name and other information publicly was a serious step. Lake County Major Crimes Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli told a news conference that «several of the deceased victims» died at the scene and one was taken to a hospital and died there. Police have not released details about the victims or their injuries.

Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said all five people killed in the parade were adults but she had no information on the sixth victim who was taken to a hospital and died there. One of those killed was a Mexican citizen, Roberto Velasco, Mexico’s director of North American affairs, said on Twitter Monday. She said two other Mexicans were injured.

The Northshore University Health Center received 26 patients after the attack. All but one had gunshot wounds, said Dr. Brigham Temple, medical director of emergency preparedness. Their ages ranged from 8 to 85 and Temple estimated that four or five patients were children, the AP reported.
