Egg prices in the United States continue to climb and have reached a historic high.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in March a dozen eggs cost $6.23, a significant increase from $5.89 in February and $4.95 in January.

This rise has caused concern among consumers and businesses that rely on this essential food item.

The situation is even more critical due to the seasonal spike in demand.

Egg Prices Hit Record High in the US

In the U.S., Easter — celebrated this year on April 20 — includes the traditional decoration and egg hunts, driving up purchases.

Despite the high prices, the White House confirmed it will go ahead with its Easter event.

The traditional Easter Egg Roll is scheduled for April 21.

This event will feature 30,000 decorated eggs, despite the record-high costs.

In response to the issue, the government authorized egg imports from Brazil back in January, according to EFE.

Brazilian exports tripled in March, reaching 2,705 tons — a move intended to stabilize the market.

On the political front, former President Donald Trump blamed President Joe Biden for the price increase.

However, experts point out that avian flu played a key role.

This disease led to the culling of millions of hens in the early months of the year, reducing supply.

Although wholesale prices dropped in March, this has yet to be reflected in the retail market, and families continue to pay more.
