Christian Nicholas Barrera, just 19 years old, has been arrested in Houston, Texas, accused of a brutal murder.

Barrera is accused of killing Andrew Garza, 30, during an armed robbery he carried out with two other people.

The documents in the case against Christian Nicholas Barrera detail that he has been charged with capital murder.

According to the Texas State Penal Code, capital murder is the only crime that is punishable by the death penalty for anyone found guilty at trial.

Reviewing the legal documents against Christian Nicholas Barrera reveals a history of violent crimes.

Judge Beverly D. Armstrong of the 208th Criminal District Court in Harris County will be overseeing Christian Nicholas Barrera’s case.

Fernando Aguilar Jr., 24, and Travante Marques Purvis, 22, were also arrested for the murder of Andrew Garza.

Detectives from the Homicide Division of the Houston Police Department (HPD) investigated the brutal crime.

At 6:30 in the morning, while it was still dark, Mr. Andrew Garza was pumping gas just before going to work on Wednesday, February 28, 2024,

The scene of the tragedy was the Sunny’s Express gas station, located at 10240 Bauman Street. Andrew Garza was pumping gas when three young men approached his car.

Christian Nicholas Barrera, Fernando Aguilar Jr. and Travante Marques Purvis got out of their vehicle brandishing guns.

For some reason, that is still unclear to authorities, Christian Nicholas Barrera, Fernando Aguilar Jr. and Travante Marques Purvis began shooting.

Andrew Garza was badly wounded as the men continued shooting. It was a miracle that no one else died.

The attempted robbery took place early in the morning, when dozens of people were walking down the street on their way to work or school.

The hail of bullets was so crazy that even one of the shooters, Travante Marques Purvis, was seriously injured in the fracas.

While people ran to take cover, others called 911 to report the attack by Christian Nicholas Barrera and his accomplices.

Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department (HFD) responded to the scene to treat the two injured men.

HPD officers that were patrolling the area arrested Christian Nicholas Barrera and Fernando Aguilar Jr. before they could escape.

However, Andrew Garza was pronounced dead at the scene.

The injured shooter, Travante Marques Purvis remains hospitalized recovering after being shot by his accomplices.

HPD detectives reviewed Christian Nicholas Barrera’s background and discovered he had a violent criminal history.

Barrera has been arrested for possession of methamphetamines and illegal weapons possession, among other minor charges.

Now Christian Nicholas Barrera could face the death penalty for his crime.
