This Saturday, the boxing world was shaken by the tragic news of the death of Besar Nimani, former IBF European super welterweight champion.

At 38 years old, Nimani lost his life in a shocking manner, shot while leaving a restaurant in the German city of Bielefeld.

Boxer Besar Nimani shot down

According to the official statement from the local police, the former boxer was in the area of Obernstrasse, near Klasingstrasse, when one or more individuals approached and shot him.

Witnesses at the scene reported that up to 10 shots were heard, indicating the severity and violence of the alleged attack.

“Besar Nimani, a Kosovo citizen and resident of Bielefeld, died at the scene due to his injuries,” they mentioned.

«Currently, a major police operation is underway in the city in search of those responsible,» part of the statement reads.

Second attack

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time that Besar Nimani has been involved in an episode of armed violence.

Since, in 2013, the former European champion was the victim of another shooting that left him injured, but he managed to recover without major complications.

This recent incident, however, tragically claimed his life, leaving his fans and the boxing community dismayed.

Born in Kosovo and with German nationality since 1997, Besar Nimani stood out as a talented fighter on the European boxing scene.

Who was Besar Nimani?

He won the IBF European super welterweight belt and accumulated an impressive record of 26 victories, 22 of them by knockout, in 27 fights between 2011 and 2019.

His last professional fight even took place in December 2019, when he scored an impressive second-round knockout against Bosnian boxer Adnan Ziliq.

Nimani retired from the ring with an admirable career, but his only significant loss occurred in April 2015, against Frank Haroche, where he fell by K.O.

Given this situation, the news of Nimani’s death has generated shock in the sports community and boxing fans.

His brother breaks the silence

Social media have been filled with messages of condolences and tributes to the former champion, remembering his dedication and bravery inside and outside the ring.

Berat Nimani, brother of boxer Besar Nimani, mourned the loss in a post on Facebook:

«My brother Besar Nimani was killed in an ambush in Bielefeld, Germany. May God join us in heaven with him,» said his brother.

«I will always be proud of you, I took my soul and treacherously killed many, but no one has ever humiliated you. I love you,» he said.

German authorities have launched a thorough investigation to clarify the details of the tragic event and bring those responsible to justice, according to The Sun.

«Death knows no one. Rich poor strong weak good bad,» said a user through social media, in response to the sensitive news.
