Authorities in Palm Beach, Florida, arrested a man on Wednesday who broke into Mar-a-Lago, the exclusive club owned by former President Donald Trump, located in the city.

Trump, who assumed his second presidential term this Monday, was not at the location as he remains in Washington.

The intruder was identified as 32-year-old Bijan Arceo, who managed to jump over a wall of the property.

According to the Palm Beach Post, Arceo faces a $20,000 bond and remains in custody at the Palm Beach County Jail.

The Secret Service detected the intruder on Wednesday afternoon, reported the news agency EFE.

Authorities have stated that, so far, the motivations that led Bijan Arceo to enter a restricted federal area are unknown.

This Thursday, Arceo appeared before Judge Ashley Zuckerman, where he pleaded not guilty to a charge of trespassing.

The judge set a bail of $20,000 and prohibited him from having contact with Donald Trump, the Mar-a-Lago club, or any restricted federal area.

Restricted access at Mar-a-Lago

The route through which Bijan Arceo gained access, South Ocean Boulevard, had been closed since November 4 when Trump returned to Palm Beach before the general elections on November 5.

Authorities reopened the route last Saturday, coinciding with the former president’s return to Washington for his second inauguration.

Security at Mar-a-Lago, known as the «Winter White House,» has been a recurring issue since Trump took office in 2017.

The club has been at the center of controversy due to similar incidents in the past.
