A terrifying incident shocked residents of Melaque, Jalisco. On December 2, María Fernanda Martínez was attacked and killed by a shark.

She was the daughter of the director of the popular Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán, Ángel Martínez.

The young marine biologist was celebrating a friend’s birthday on the beach, where her passion for marine life turned into an unexpected tragedy.

Ángel Martínez describes shark attack

Ángel Martínez tearfully shared the details of the painful incident in an interview with De Primera Mano.

The grieving father revealed that several factors aligned on that fateful day, making it impossible to save his daughter.

Still, he does not blame anyone for the terrible tragedy.

“The biologists tell me that there were many situations that coincided for the shark to be there,” said Ángel.

Then the director of Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán continued: «The sea temperature dropped a degree, the day was cloudy, rainy.»

«The inflatable changed the environment in a way, the fish saw it as a refuge and the shark was following a school,» he added.

María Fernanda’s father explained that the inflatable they were in was quite large.

However, it didn’t have any protection against predators like sharks.

He does not blame anyone for the tragedy

According to Ángel, the inflatable was large and was no protection — that is why the shark was able to get so close to the people who were there.

“It modified its environment and the shark is not to blame, it is nature and my daughter would have said that they are not to blame.”

It is worth mentioning that the musician could not explain what the attack on his daughter because he didn’t want to cry on camera, but he said that his grandson told him what happened.

He claims that his daughter saved her son by putting him on top of the inflatable and calling for help.

A heartbreaking message

After bursting into tears, the young woman’s father said, «Marifer, as a marine biologist knew the risks of being at sea.»

María Fernanda, a resident of Melaque, had always felt a deep connection with the sea, dedicating her life to the study and preservation of marine life.

At the end of the interview, Ángel Martínez asked the authorities to listen to the experts — in this case marine biologists.

«She would have wanted the shark to be respected, that there not be unbridled hunting of sharks that are not to blame,» he added.

What will happen to Ángel Martínez’s grandson?

The musician said that he has not seen any video of what happened, although he knows there are videos on social media.

The director of Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán shared with De Primera Mano that his son-in-law is looking after his son Dylan’s mental health.

The child is five years old and he will receive therapy to help him cope with the trauma.
