Actress Rosa de Castilla dies. The Patronato y Consejo honorario de la Casa del Actor has confirmed that Mexican actress and singer María Victoria Ledesma Cuevas, known as Rosa de Castilla, has died at the age of 90, according to El Universal.
The actress was nominated in 1954 for the Ariel Award by the Academia Mexicana de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas in 1954 and belonged to the so-called Golden Age of Mexican cinema. She was a pioneer of musical television in Mexico. She was born in Encarnación de Díaz Jalisco, the daughter of Salvador Ledesma Márquez and María de la Luz Cuevas Cuéllar and grew up with three brothers, Luis, Javier, and Liduvina.

From a very young age Rosa de Castilla lived in Cañada Honda, Aguascalientes. She later moved with her family to the city of Aguascalientes and is very identified with that place. It was there that she began her career at the age of 14, with successful appearances at the Río Rosa nightclub.
She made movies with actors like Jorge Negrete, Pedro Armendáriz, Luis Aguilar, Joaquín Cordero, Antonio Aguilar among others. She appeared in various productions of the time, among the best known are Los tres alegrías compadres (1952), Rumba Caliente (1952), Tal para cual (1953) as well as more than 30 other Mexican films. As for her musical career, she recorded with emerging labels and major labels of the fifties and sixties, such as the recently created Columbia, RCA Víctor, and Orfeón. She recorded singles such as No Volver, Amaneciendo te Vas, No me extrañes nunca, among the most remembered for performing with the iconic Mariachi Vargas.
She withdrew from acting until she returned to the cinema in 1990 with La Paloma de Marseille. She once again won over the critics, winning the Bravo award for best film actress from the Rafael Banquells association.
